Global policy said no paid seeding. So we stopped buying buzz.

Nestlé needed to rank on Buzzmetrics for Tết and collect real data to steer a long-term message platform — without the seeding the entire Vietnamese market runs on. We routed the campaign through communities instead, and delivered 1.5–2× the qualified conversation.

Market context

Everyone has buzz. Almost nobody has qualified buzz.

The question the industry avoids is not "how much discussion did we generate" but "how much of that discussion was real". More and more campaigns were posting abnormally high discussion volumes, and the measurement standards were moving to catch up — from counting presence to assessing genuine interaction.

Qualified content comes from qualified users. That became the north star for finding the effectiveness hiding behind an impressive number.

Brand position

A global no-seeding policy

Nestlé's worldwide standard prohibits paid seeding interaction. That removed the default Vietnamese playbook entirely.

Brand need

Honest data, not flattering data

Nestlé Corp needed an accurate read on brand health over Tết, and clean data to develop the long-running 'Cầu Gì Hơn' message platform.

The agency problem

Three things that had to be true at once.

STEP 1

Rank on Buzzmetrics

Place in the Buzzmetrics table for the Tết campaign period, competing against campaigns that were seeding freely.

STEP 2

Deliver the message to the right audience

Land 'What more could I wish for than this moment together' with the actual target audience, producing qualified conversation the brand could learn from.

STEP 3

Generate genuine interaction

Create real activity with real users — the data had to be collectible and trustworthy afterwards.

Strategic approach

Skip the broadcast layer. Enter the room directly.

The normal way

Brand → influencers → audience

The message passes through influencer content, hot fanpage content and brand channel content before it reaches the target audience community. Engagement is manufactured at each hop, and the conversation that results is diluted by the time it counts.

The community marketing way

Brand → community → conversation

The message goes straight into the target audience's own communities and is delivered by their own admins. More qualified community buzz, direct access, and a faster path to a result that means something.

The shift From loudspeaker marketing to next-door-neighbour marketing

Stop telling everyone everything. Say the right thing, to the right person, in the place they already trust.

Execution

A wishlist contest, carried by admins.

The campaign centred on the contest "Wishlist right now — what more could I wish for than this moment together", run with Kenh14 and aFamily, inviting people to share the ordinary, family-facing things they wanted for Tết.

Student communities Office worker communities Mom & baby communities Kenh14 aFamily

The message was delivered directly through the admins of student, office-worker and mom groups — people with standing in the room, rather than paid accounts posting into it. Quality entries were converted into campaign content, and positive discussion of the brand was consolidated into qualified buzz.

Because the entries were real, the data the brand collected afterwards was usable for the long-term platform decision it had been commissioned to inform.

A brand that is structurally forbidden from buying buzz outranked brands that were buying it — because the communities carried the message for free, and meant it.
